Ryan Gander’s six bronze sculptures at London’s Elephant Park have been nominated for the 2025 PSSA Marsh Award for Excellence in Public Sculpture.
Unveiled on October 8, 2024, these works were created in collaboration with South London Gallery, the Contemporary Art Society, and Year 4 students from three local primary schools (Sulaiman, Lilly, Mason, George, and Maria). Through a series of workshops, the children explored their futures, reflected on their communities, and considered their place in the world.
Each sculptural pair combines figurative and abstract elements, drawing inspiration from the children’s imagination. The costumed figures, designed beyond traditional constraints, symbolize creative freedom and self-expression. While enriching the cultural fabric of Elephant Park, these sculptures also create an engaging art trail for both locals and visitors, aiming to inspire future artists and creative thinkers.
Organized in partnership with the Marsh Charitable Trust, the PSSA Marsh Award celebrates outstanding contemporary public sculptures and monuments, fostering greater public engagement with this important art form.
