Kevin Francis Gray, known for his mastery of Italian marble, reinterprets the relationship between abstraction, figuration, and portraiture without following classical sculptural traditions. He transforms the inherent qualities of marble (its hardness, stillness, and coldness) into strengths, revealing unexpected potential in the material. His forms give marble a fluid quality, existing on surfaces where concave and convex movements blend.
Born in 1972 in Armagh, Northern Ireland, Gray studied at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Goldsmiths, University of London. His sculptures have been exhibited in venues such as the Royal Academy in London, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea in Saint-Étienne. Gray lives and works between Canterbury, London, and Pietrasanta.
Gray is preparing to open his first solo exhibition in Turkey with PİLEVNELİ in February.
